Rwanda Destinations Gorilla Guardians Village

At Gorilla Guardians Village, Volcanoes National Park is not only a great place to watch gorillas, but it’s also a great place to learn about Rwandan culture. The non-profit cultural village, which is run by rehabilitated poachers, allows visitors to try their hand at some of Rwanda’s most recognized crafts and activities.

You’ll learn how to carry a basket on your head, make your own baskets, fire an arrow, and crush grains with a heavy stone, much like Rwandan women. The animated tutorials make the whole thing feel like a big party.

The intore dancing recitals at Gorilla Guardians Village are worth staying for. To the beat of rhythmic drumming, the traditional dancers, dressed in long straw wigs and skirts, put on a thrilling show. Before you know it, you’ll be up and dancing with them.
